    1. Thanks Joy for your comment. Well I can tell you for sure that Ayo Van Elmar designs are out of the box and she’s rapidly growing in the the fashion industry – not just in Africa but internationally. She makes use of the African prints a’lot (which shows her love for her homecountry) but her designs has a taste of class…. You probably should come around again as I will be writing an article about it soon. Once again thank you. -Kimberly

    1. Making sure the world get to know that African designers are no joke and that the African wax prints is surely taking is place in the world is my objective for writing this article and am glad you liked it, Thanks 🙂

  1. Wow, that orange dress up top is amazing! Are breasts in Nigeria held in high body esteem? I’m just curious because a lot of the designers highlight them in tasteful, but unique and daring ways. I feel like American designers keep the girls hidden. Thanks for opening my eyes to a whole new realm of fashion!

    1. Nope, actually the dress you see on individual only shows what they ask the designers for, Nigeria is one country that modesty is demanded from their ladies but at the same time we still do have the right to wear what we desire.

  2. I Love Every designers that has been mentioned on here, the fact that they are Africans and they don’t allow the situation of their continent to hold them back is amazing and impressive. well i can see some new comers like iamISIGO, maki oh, Grey and orange culture are not dissappointing also but orange culture I like the most.

  3. iamISIGO, Mai Atafo and Bridget Awosika all have some fantastic designs, I like there collectins the most so far. Others are beautiful too tho!

  4. I Love every designers that was mentioned here and to my surprise I can see that they are all been patronize by hollywood stars even the first Lady is also a fan of the african prints well I can’t say more. Nigerians and african designers are goimg places and I love your blog kim. 🙂 Lots of love from Sierra Leone

  5. I meant to add that even though they are not mentioned, I love Virgo’s Lounge – they are doing pretty well for themselves. I know Angela Simmons is a fan. But then her stylist/friend, Kanayo is Nigerian so it’s great that she gets exposed to wonderful Naija designers.

    1. Virgo’s lounge is sure fast becoming one of the must-see fashion house out there and am sorry she isn’t in the list but i also said the one’s mentioned in this post are the one’s I could lay my hands on as at that time so Virgo’s lounge is surely going to be in the 2nd list. just watch out. thanks :). I am aware of the fact that Angela’s stylist is a Nigerian but at the same time she must have love the designs for her to settle for it.

      1. Oh definitely. But it certainly helps with exposure. If I was an Indian stylist and knew of some great designers, I’d certainly put one or two in the mix with other great designers.

  6. Frank Oshodi, Mimi Lee, Orange Culture and Sunny Rose are new to me but I am familiar with the others. Deola Sagoe is a classic and I like Grey. Duro Olowu is just great – I know he has a diffusion line at JC Penney which is great for him. JBL is doing big things. Definitely proud of my people.

I’m sure you know already 🙂 but I am passing on the Liebster award to you for being so fun and stylish. More details here: http://www,
In other words, tag you’re IT

  7. Jewel by Lisa is a blessing to the Nigerian fashion industry, Deola sagoe, Orange culture, Maki oh, Kosibah and even all the rest are fantastic designers also but who’s this Duro Olowu? this dude seems to be pushing real button with his designs for Michelle Obama to have been wearing his designs like he is Givenchy or so but truly from what have seen here the dude is talented. thanks

    1. Thanks Mason :). You should do and I can assure you that you will find Duro Olowu designs irresistible and tho ‘Sunny Rose’ is an upcoming fashion label, They are already making waves as if they’ve been on for so long, so you definitely going to love them.

  8. Orange Couture is one popular designer here in London, I love his work and Jewel By Lisa is one fantastic designer also.

  9. I swore I never knew that Frank Oshodi was the one who design Agbani Miss world dress… thanks for the info and what will fashion be like without Duro olowu? he’s one guy that can compete with any other fashion designers bless him.

    1. Alot of people don’t know it either but he’s really the one who designed it and Frank Oshodi just keep getting better by the day & oh! his bridal designs are also the talk of town, just of recent there was this rumor everywhere about him been the designer of Annie Macaulay-Idibia wedding dress but he took to his twitter account to squash the rumors stating that he wasn’t the one who designed it – it would have been lovely if he was the one tho!
