Nigerian Design Label: Wana Sambo Lookbook

Wana Sambo Lookbook

Wana Sambo is one of Nigeria’s hottest young designers out there right now. The brand was launched in 2010, and has since gone from strength to strength. Her eponymous range was one of the finalists in the 2012 Lagos Fashion and Design Week Young Designers of the Year category. “The Wana Sambo brand” was birthed in her teenage years, while she was at university because she was seeking a particular style which wasn’t sold anywhere or wasn’t her idea of the look she wanted; just then did she decide to create such brand that she and her friends, the fashion goons, could relate to. That was the major influence behind the birth of the Wana Sambo brand.

The original idea for the Wana Sambo Resort 2013 was inspired from a daily visit to vintage bars and coffee shops.

‘Growing up, I loved playing dress up with my dolls, I was born into a family with an uber stylish mum! She always dressed us up for every occasion. She was so detailed that we had a whole closet filled and tagged with clothes for different events/occasions. My favorites were our beach outfits, these did not include swimwear! They were beach getups for kids. I loved it because it added that extra oomph to our looks. Growing up, I had the androgynous look because I was a bit of a tomboy and as I grew up, my style evolved with my looks, now I am a blend of everything. Just like the Wana Sambo woman.’ Said Wana Sambo In a recent interview.
